Reagan-Udall Report

In August, the Reagan-Udall Foundation released a report on food traceability under FSMA 204. This report was the culmination of discussions with industry about opportunities and concerns in implementing traceability. A key recommendation of the report is the establishment of a Public-Private Partnership, which is being provided by PFT.

FSMA Section 204

  • FSMA Section 204, formally known as the “Final Rule on Requirements for Additional Traceability Records for Certain Foods” requires additional traceability via recordkeeping requirements for certain foods on FDA’s Food Traceability List (FTL). These requirements apply to those who manufacture, process, pack, or hold foods that are included on the FTL. Those impacted by the rule must maintain records of Key Data Elements (KDEs) that are associated with Critical Tracking Events (CTEs), as defined by FDA. The compliance date for this rule is January 20, 2026.
